Toklas Bakery opens onto Surrey Street at street level, centred around an Italian-style marble and wood counter. Mornings begin with viennoiserie: croissants, pain au chocolat, cinnamon and cardamom buns, alongside breakfast plates and coffee from Assembly Roasters in Brixton, rotated regularly to keep things interesting.
The offering evolves through the day. From midday, freshly baked sourdough, baguette and focaccia carry the sandwiches, with strecci (Roman-style pizza slices with seasonal toppings), salads, tartines, and soup. Breads are made from YQ grain grown exclusively for Toklas by Green Acres farm and milled on site.
Sweet options change with the seasons. Expect basque cheesecake, chocolate and hazelnut cake, or marzipan brioche alongside the signature cookies: bitter chocolate and honey, tahini, and vegan oat crunchie.
Every Saturday, baked goods are available to pre-order for collection. Orders close Tuesday evening.
