I ❤ Campbell
180 Studios presents the first exhibition by acclaimed fashion photographer Campbell Addy, the first solo show in the artist's eight-year career. Featuring a newly conceived set of iconic images and a short film shot on location in Ghana, I ❤ Campbell is a personal meditation on the artist's roots and inspirations.
Consisting of 36 original pieces, this new exhibition charts his journey up to this new vantage point he has gained. Featuring a selection of works ranging from photography, paintings, a new film and spatial design curated by renowned Set Designer Ibby Njoya, the exhibition intends to be an immersive experience. Designed by instrumentalist and producer CKTRL, a soundscapeaccompanies all participants through the exhibition with results he describes as a “world within love, grounded by nature.” In July 2016, photographer and artist Campbell Addy (b. 1993, London, UK) graduated from Central Saint Martins and founded Nii Journal and Nii Agency. Built to challenge perceptions of what it means to be beautiful, it offered an alternative perspective on who and what constitutes beauty and style in our modern fashion industry. It was the start of a journey that’s seen Addy become one of the world’s leading contemporary fashion photographers, gracing covers of the likes of Vogue, Harpers, Wall Street Journal, Dazed and i-D. When generation-defining figures seek a lens, Beyoncé, Naomi Campbell, Bukayo Saka, Meghan Markle and Edward Enninful, all turn to Addy for his elegant portraiture. Now, at a turning point in his life and career, Addy is contemplative, questioning his purpose and direction. There is a desire to rediscover what had first sparked his creative curiosity. “I’d lost the creative Campbell that did Nii Journal,” he starts, “the fearless person who dragged a door from the street into his room to make photographs.”
